Well... It's been fun.

Edit March 28, 2014: I've been trying to make games this whole time, guys, it's just hard :(

I'm not exactly going anywhere, but this is still a sort of goodbye.

You may or may not know me--I've been on Newgrounds for a while, and I don't intend to stop coming to Newgrounds anytime soon.

However, I've decided to start in a new direction. I've been JonBro for quite some time now, since early 2005, and I feel like I've finally outgrown the name and the work that's attached to it. I've also come to terms with the fact that, sadly, most of the things I really want to make nowadays wouldn't really be fit for Newgrounds. I've slowly grown a tremendous passion for developing games that wouldn't find the right audience on a web browser.

I made a news post in June describing that I was planning on making a new name for myself by the end of the year. Due to schoolwork getting in the way, I haven't prepared as much for this seemingly insignificant announcement as I would have liked, but my new online persona is Jonochrome.

The change to Jonochrome feels like a major change to me, because it means that I'm separating everything I've made in the past from what I'm working on now. I want everything I make from here on out to be better-planned, more refined, and probably more sizable than what I'd made prior, and this more professional, less kiddy-sounding name is one way to re-brand my work and motivate myself to try harder.

So, this news post will probably be my last public activity as JonBro on this site. I'll only be using this account to respond to any JonBro-related messages I receive.

Regarding this decision, I'm ashamed of two things: I was never able to finish Pain on the Brain 4, and I never found the motivation to finish a certain lengthy, dramatic drawn Mario parody I started long ago (which I was honestly quite proud of). When I find time, I'll likely post the remains of those two projects on a section of my new site.

If you happen to care about whatever I'm doing with my life, my news-related Twitter (which won't be updated very often at all) is JonochromeNews.

Thanks, Newgrounds. I'm sorry that I won't be doing much of anything here anymore. You've shaped a very, very huge part of my life, and I don't have the slightest idea where I'd be without you.

Guess I'll bookmark your site, then! I mean, you became the only reason I really, checked Newgrounds often... so... hm... yeah.

... oh my, I have such, terrible flashbacks though, god damn, I've embarrassed myself so much in the past...

We all have reasons to be embarrassed in some way or another. P.S. Don't read my early Newgrounds posts or reviews

I had this weird dream that you skipped RT2 and RT3 and just made RT4 lol (I know the series is cancelled)

Heh, that might have been fun. But I cared too much about consistency to pull a stunt like that, and people would have complained and logically been very confused. Cool dream, though, I don't find it weird at all

If it's not to hurtful or if it brings up any bad memories, I'd actually like to tell you what I was actually predicting was going to happen with the RT series. (yeah yeah it's cancelled but still, I think I had a pretty good viewpoint of it.)

Well, when I saw part one's ending I assumed "okay, Diz ditched them, so he's out of the picture." so like what was your initial intention with part 2 was, sewers.
In part 3, knowing that the old riddle school rejections would make an appearance, I imagined that Phil and the gang had wound up in the city, searching for a way back home, and they would run into an arcade that had some old... arcade games... (bet you didn't see that one! I mean, why on earth would there be arcade games in an arcade?) and those game would be slightly broken, basically playing was little was made of the rejected games.

I would tell you part 4 and 5, but I didn't really have much of a lead on what those where actually going to be like, so I never really though of what those games would be like. I was kinda questioning telling you this because like I said, I know that the game was special to you and I didn't want to bring back bad memories.

Well, until you next game is out, I'll be waiting! :D

Hey, man. It's sad to hear that you've stopped making games, and it's worse to hear that you're not going to be here that much. I love all the games you've made; it's one of the greatest escape game series I've ever had the honor of playing. It's been a great 8 years, and even though you're not making any new Riddle games, I still feel happy that we have the ones you already created. I wish you all the best in life, and hope you find what you're looking for.

I'm still making games, just... bigger games. (At least, I'm trying to.) Thanks, BrawlMastah, I really am thankful for your kind words, and recently, I've been needing words like yours.

Hey Jonbro. I loved your games and, though it's sad to see you go, I've really enjoyed being able to experience your work. Good luck and best wishes for the future!

So... that's it for jonbro huh? Well, to be honest, I don't actually like the name jonochrome, but hey! it is your name not mine!
That and I went to the Jonochrome site, and i spent about 20 minutes playing don't press this button 1 and 2, and I was kinda sad when in the first one the button pops and there's nothing you can do about it, and in the second one with the bug, but I got around it by cheating until the mouse stopped being a pillow.
Lately, I haven't been following you as much as i'd like, but I though(not sure if I spelled that correctly) that I should leave a comment.
Anyway... good luck Jonathan Brodsky! Oh wait...
(Seriously though, good luck)

I don't know what to make of this.

At least you replied. That's something I always liked about you.

The music in it seems really cool, what are all the themes in OrangeBlock levels? (all of them)

Heh, it's been forever since I last looked this up, and I wasn't very good at crediting individual songs on Newgrounds when I made OrangeBlock, so I had to dig through my backup hard drive to answer your question. I should change the crediting page while I'm at it.

Thank you, I have never seen a developer like you answer any fans, thats why I like you from other developers, that, and the button games you did ^^

Well, thank you! I try to do what I can.

I haven't spoken to you in a while, and here are the questions.

Are you a Madness Fan?
What are you doing currently?
Why are you so awesome?
Do you read the Oatmeal?

Hey Rousingloki!

1. I used to be a big Madness fan. I still find it impressive but it doesn't interest me the same way anymore.
2. I'm currently working on finishing my senior year of high school, which should technically have been over a couple months ago, but my online physics class is taking much longer than I'd hoped.
3. I'm awesome? That's debatable. I'm still trying to work on being more awesome.
4. I don't know what the Oatmeal is, but if I prepared oatmeal for myself, I would probably read the words on the container it came in while eating.

lol, thanks for the response, that last one though, is a website, and while funny, is actually very informational. The way you talk, and your mannerisms in speech, made me think that you read the oatmeal. Oh well, thanks for answering.

Have you ever considered an orangeblock sequel? it is very addicting and simple, yet there are only 5 levels, I wish there were too more...

I started making one a long time ago, actually, but the file corrupted and it never got finished. Amazing how such a simplistic game crashed on me. But now I don't really have an interest in making a sequel; if I made anything, I'd probably make a one-level OrangeBlock-style game where the blocks move ridiculously fast.

Oh yeah forgot a question, do you like to watch klay world? or Klaymations by robert Benfer?

I used to watch them a lot. I think my favorite one was called Long Lost Brother, and Pancake Mines was an immediate classic as well. Then I forgot about Klay World for a long time until Knox recently released the series finale, which was well done.

I must admit when I heard about this I was sad. Not sad that you are moving on, but sad because many of your games, especially the Riddle School series, were a massive part of my early childhood. I know why you want to change your name, because I also have an awfully-chosen name, picked when I was younger. I wish you luck on your new journey, and I hope you have fun. So long.

Im very glad because of your new begining, but are you really stopping posting games and vids on ng because all of em were awesome and made big part of my childhood.I will always be a true fan of yours.I followed you since 2007 but i never really had an account. You are awesome and you will always be.I hope that your sense of humor didnt die away.

I have my doubts that I'll post anything else to Newgrounds, because I'll mostly be focusing on making games, and I don't think they'll be Internet browser games. Thanks for all the support!

I don't THINK my sense of humor's died away or even changed that much, but I'm sure it hasn't stayed exactly the same. You be the judge--here are some dumb jokes I wrote recently on a stream of consciousness:

"Gunther could never put on his boxers without them barking."

"Robin Shelves walked into a store and was immediately thrown in jail."

"The moment a pure-bread shoots up out of a toaster, it becomes a high-bread."

nooooooooo we will miss you man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are they going to be downloadable? If they are are they going to be free or I'll have to buy them cause they will be more awesome then previous ones for sure.PS:Here are some smileys to support you:

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I'll have to decide once I'm further along in making them. I'd like to one day sell my games (if I think they're worth spending money to play) because I'll have to earn a living somehow, and it'd be awesome to earn a living doing something I love doing. That's probably a ways down the road, though. Thanks for all the smiles, they are helpful :D

Damn,it's sad to see you become less active on NG aswell. Lots of people simply left NG and a lot of them were some damn fine people,it's a shame how this site is starting to slide in the levels of Youtube and DA...and ofcourse,i'll ALWAYS cherish your Riddle School series.

Peace out JonBro,you were a really neat guy in my eyes. :)

And,are you working on next game (animation?),or are you still planning on what to do next?I want to be game creator (animator) too but im still studying about it so it will be a long time until my first NG post.

I am continually working on things, but a lot of the things I start end up sorta fading from my memory or stop seeming like good ideas. There's a certain game I started making about three years ago that I still feel 100% motivation to finish and I haven't stopped working on it.

Hopefully this isn't asking too much, but could you shed some light on that Zonic is Awesome book in RD3?

A fellow sprite animator on a forum I used to visit called himself Zonic, and he told me to put that in the game, so I did. I really wish I hadn't put that plug there, because as months passed on that forum, I decided that Zonic wasn't a particularly awesome person as I thought, and people keep commenting about that book and asking me what it means.
Maybe that's childish of me, I don't know--I'd imagine most people who talk to him would say he's a pretty cool guy--but it still makes me feel unclean having such an obvious cameo for someone I stopped associating myself with long ago.
