Kind of pointless to some, but really great for many others who might want to start making games, I've sworn off to stop making animation or anything else so I decided not to watch it. Sorry for sounding like a jerk.

I know it's not a video for everyone, just a video for people interested in learning this sort of thing.

And swearing not to animate or anything else sounds like a terrible idea. The privilege to animate is like one of the world's greatest canvases, so I don't know why you'd automatically write that, along with anything similar to it, off your list of creative outlets. In fact, I would probably not be alive right now if I wasn't ever able to use Flash, and I'm serious about that.

Thanks for posting the vid. Now if I can only save enough money to buy flash...

If I could buy Flash for everyone in the world who wanted it, I would. ...Well, I might. Maybe.

Thanks :). Where did the money link come from?

Money link?

I'm glad that you feel that way but there is a reason why I stopped animating. I can tell you the story if you want but it might be a waste of time, so It's your call if you want me to tell you.

Well, I'm not so concerned about it being a waste of my time, personally, but if you think it would be a waste of yours and nothing would come out of it anyway, you don't have to type it all out if you don't want. Either way.

Well I'll just give you an insight then: When I started animating which was about 2 years ago, I would show my friends for feedback and certain opinions, all of which said that it was terrible and after looking back on them several times, I didn't hesitate to agree with them. It wasn't until at least 3 months later that I finally made something that they liked, almost everyone anyway. So to start my series I made another one that they also liked, I set out to make these things but after 6 months of reviewing of editing my animations I hated them both, I wanted to make sure that it would be good for the internet, but I didn't think it was, so I scrapped every bit of evidence that the series was ever created, and immediately started working on a new series, I finished several but I was right back where I started: making stuff that all my friends hated, so after 1.5 years of terrible animations I quit, banned and blocked My flash and macromedia software off of my computer. sorry that my ending was so crappy, but I just wanted to end the story as soon as possible.

It's these same kinds of struggles that all the greats have had to deal with.

Every artist looks back on their older work and is ashamed by it. I hate to look at all my older stuff, and I've been tempted to erase it from existence before. But it is a part of my animating history, and a constant reminder that I have since improved. Sometimes I just look back on my older animations and say, "This is absolutely repulsive," or, "I could have done this way better if I had done this instead," even with the occasional, "That part was actually kinda fun." Our past will always remain even when we try to forget it, and forgetting is what causes us to repeat our mistakes. Accepting and acknowledging our failures is what makes us stronger as human beings and as artists.

Everyone has had to deal with discouragement, and I've dealt with a lot of that in my time. But that same discouragement is what brought me to where I am today.

Jonbro, I dunno how to thank you. This SO makes up for cancelling Riddle School. Maybe I can make a tribute!

That'd be fine :P

;_;

I don't really have anything to say about this comment, but I felt weird not responding to it because I've responded to all the other messages.

I'm starting with this simple tutorial and I am looking at many others. I figure I'll start my animating carrier with a movie/game Trilogy. I hope it doesn't become as popular as Riddle School because I'll want to stop with #3. All in All, thanks for this tutorial! It was really helpful and I hope I'll start movie like animations SOON!

lol
Sounds awesome! I wish you the bestest of lucks.

Thanks for giving some thought into what I said, for what you said was some actually really good advice, But even though you said ALL that, I still plan not to animate, I actually plan to delete my whole newgrounds profile.

Well, what's your decision is your decision, and I'm sure you're going to do what you believe is best. But just remember to think about both ends of the spectrum before you do anything you might regret later down the road.

hey johnny bro are you gonna start a new series cause i have a pretty good idea for one

I have a lot of ideas of my own, none of which are for a series of any description, but I won't know for sure what my next project will be until it's basically done because plans change so often.

I fallowed your tutorial: http://goo.gl/4QfCP

olol
Very nice. You didn't have to follow THAT closely, but the revamped graphics are very slick and sweet.

man, i love your work, i have played a lot of point and click games, but your series were the best thing in the genre that i have ever played, even if it was going to end with riddle transfer, i would feel comfortable with that, so i will just wait until you finish riddle transfer 2, even if it takes 5 years to finish it, im sure i would have worth the wait, actually i replay all the riddle games, i find them still as good as the very first time i played it, you, after matt rozsak, are my favorite artist, i wish you the best, you inspire me to make flash games, but i will wait until thay are good engout like to be subbed to newgrounds, good luck with your future plans!

I cancelled Riddle Transfer 2 about a month ago, because I'd... rather not take 5 years to finish it, among other reasons, lol. But I'm glad you enjoyed them while they lasted, and I'll try my best to keep making things that are enjoyable :)

I'M PEANUT BUTTER GAMER LOOK AT ME HERE'S ME IM ME.

EESDESESESRDT

im happy to hear that you will d your best to keep making things that are enjoyable, i wish you the best, i hope that every of your future projects has succes. about Riddle Transfer 2, dont worry, at least you gave an ending to the series, diz escaped on his spaceship, phil and his friends would eventually get out of the sewer so it can be considered an ending. i would have lovedto play RT2, but as i said, i feel comfortable with this ending, at least you didnt abandoned the flash en the climax of the series, like in super mario bros Z, where it was cancelled on one of the most important part of the series.
anyway, riddle or not you can make awesome flash, either movies or games, im pretty sure that anything you make will be awesome, just like this chainsaw katana: http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ll6ocpgg2X1q cu83eo1_500.jpg

you sir deserve your own chainsaw katana, a medal and a statue that explains that you are so awesome that someone made you a statue. once again, i wish you the best, looking forward on your future work.

I actually thought about that when I was still working on the Riddle Transfer series, how I didn't want the series to suffer the same fate as Super Mario Bros. Z. Unfortunately it had to end, and there's no way around that, but thankfully it worked out in such a way that I could provide closure to the series, both in the last released game and in a news post detailing what the rest of the series would have included.

also lol chainsaw katana

I've heard so many things about this and had never actually bothered seeing it before.

And now that I've seen it, I feel... dirty. That wasn't even remotely funny. I'm not sure what the big deal is. It had potential to be funny, but the jokes were horribly delivered. I can see the lasting appeal in something like Numa Numa or Nyan Cat, but I'm actually a little disgusted that this has as many views as it does. That's my honest opinion.

Grounds the New. Also, throbbing masses.

You can't have the Throbbing Masses without the thobbingest mass.

I've started to like AttackingTuncans more.

Are you ever gonna make one of those later. I'm talking about your profile picture.

Oh, wow, I actually totally forgot that was there.

I might just keep my current profile picture for the fun of it. It pretty accurately sums up my procrastination.

It's kinda funny but if you put something there it would more personality to your newgrounds page. Do whatever you want though.
