Why haven't I heard this before?

Your music is inspirational to me. And this is the most upbeat song I've heard from you. It feels like I just finished a long journey to walk through a gate into one of the most enormous and mystifying carnivals ever. Everything fits. This needs a score much higher than 2/5.

cazok responds:

Yeah well the NG audio portal isn't really the best place for a serious composer.
I'm sad to say I'm done composing for NG artists :(
Thanks for your comments though!

I am leaving a review! :D

This is a pretty smooth song but could probably be improved in a few areas.
Your old version of On the Clouds "flows" better than this version (though this version is still superior); this one seems to have more changes in volume and less easing notes. The tune here doesn't change a whole lot, aside from its instruments and their pitches. And, like you said, the song also could use some more flute!

While you did write this theme eight years ago, I think I'll have to give this an 8 for the above reasons. But it's still a good song!

PuffballsUnited responds:

I guess I did notice it felt like it jumped a bit more than the older version. I liked the changing in volume though, but I guess I noticed the easing.

Thanks for your review, and I forgot to mention thanks for the special thanks in your song. (That's a lot of thanks in one sentence :P)

I hope you do get around to making this game.

Sounds kinda like something you'd hear in Metroid Prime. Each part of the song fits the feelings you described (neutral, heat, cold, rain, wind), and one of the most important parts of game music is having the music fit the mood and setting of the game. For example, I don't know exactly where the 'blistering winds' part of the song would take place, but just by the way it sounds, it seems likely it'd be a desert theme filled with sandstorms. Each part has atmosphere and most of the song has a beat. I can definitely see the song changing depending on what part of the weather department you're in.

If I were going to give criticism, I'd say it feels like the cold section of the song was meant to feel icy and fairly empty, but the notes were a bit basic for my liking. Maybe a slight echo or reverb(?) after each note, plus an occasional chord, might provide the same feel you were going for without being too plain.

PuffballsUnited responds:

Yeah, I'm still learning about FL so I don't quiiite know how to do reverb/echoes yet. I did figure out how to do pitch bending and I even improved my mastering.

As I'm listening...

...my hair is standing straight up.

The atmosphere is just chilling. It's like sharp, solid ice. Illogical peaceful anxiety. I can't really describe it any better than that. Nicely done.

ProudOne responds:

Thank you! I experienced alot that with sharp, high tones and contrasting bass, the effect on people is goosebumping ;D

Perfect.

This is EXACTLY what I wanted. It's amazing that you did this in just two days. I didn't expect wacky time signatures but they worked really well, and the whole song has just the right feel. It made me grin ear to ear.

cazok responds:

I'm so glad that you liked it :)
My head has been spinning around for plausible circus-themes for 48 hours straight, so I'm glad that it wasn't in vain. (My brain hurts XD)

Really looking forward to see the game when it comes out!

I'm too lazy to write a real review...

so I'm going to copy the comments that I made a few seconds ago and put them here:

"i liek the variety of noats so far
It doesn't start out HipHoppy but then it's like HIPHOPPYTECHNO at 0:30
very fine chords good sir
and the piano is not out of place
I want to say it sounds Egyptian in certain places but that doesn't make any sense
And I just noticed that it looped, lol"

NightmareTheDragon responds:

lol, thanks. HipHoppyTechno....where do you come up with these words? egyptian.......nah.. Yeah....me and my loops :}D

Lazy.....lol.

Thanks for the review Jon.

To me, this doesn't sound much like PW.

It sounds pretty cool though. I think it's more like a calm, slightly suspenseful part of Star Fox 64, or maybe a cave in one of the 3D Zelda games.

remotecube responds:

Ah, yeah, I could see both of those situations. :)

Not the greatest, but worth saying something:

I recorded this song and played it backwards, but to my great dismay, there was no hidden message. You were just blabbering nonsense.

Oh well, lol

DNAmusic responds:

DUDE WE LOVE YOU NOW lol

This is incredibly epic.

The original is already terrific with its catchy pixely beat, but this... This brings the Cave Story theme to a whole new level. It couldn't be remixed much more professionally than this. It's like a classical orchestra, and even with all these new non-8-bit-sounding instruments, it still manages to keep the same wonderful mood as the original, maybe even making it better.

I could see this in the new WiiWare version of Cave Story. You should try to contact Pixel somehow.

LightOtaku responds:

looking back on it now, I find it pretty messy, actually. Too many sweepy strings in the background. makes it too blurry, I think. If that makes sense... :/

I've been meaning to do a remix project of the whole soundtrack, but with the new WiiWare version coming out, I want to wait to see what my competition is... D:

Thanks for the review! :D

This is a JOY to listen to.

I listened to this so many times yesterday, and I plan on listening to it more today. It's one of the happiest songs ever, and very well done. I'm going to try to use this in a Flash!

Oh, and I'm not sure whether or not you think this is a good idea, but is there any chance you could submit an alternate version without the seagulls and ocean waves in the background (where it is open for more versatile use?) Either way, it's still brilliant.

MaestroRage responds:

I don't think submitting another version would be a good idea, however if you would like, I will send you a pm sometime today with a version that has no sea background.

I am glad you liked it, I hope it can entertain you for hours yet! Thank you for the review!
